I finally finished the Blogging Fundamentals course that WordPress offers on the Daily Post.
It is an interesting course, I figured it would spend a lot of time brainstorming topics to write about and then doing the actual writing of it. The course instead focused on taking control of your site and checking out the community features of WordPress.
One of the favorite features, was the WordPress reader. I have not had a solid RSS reader in years. I had for some strange reason never bothered to check out the WordPress reader till during this course when I decided to open it up and click on reader. I never realized how much easier it was to focus on writing comments, finding tags to follow. Any of that.
I am now following a ton of blogs that I really enjoy reading. I am more engaged with the content I am consuming than I used to be, and thats feeding back into my journaling and writing.
This was extra beneficial because I got to learn about how other people have customized their sites and made them truly interesting. I also got to see different blogging techniques from flash fiction writers, which is a writing genre I have become super curious about. Flash fiction/microfiction are really short stories. Sometimes around 200 words. I have been following some on
Anyway. Now that I am done with blogging fundamentals, I have moved on to the “Shaping your story course.” I think this course will be more applicable to my blogging and will help with writing for Mystery Dog Rescue.
I may even try my hand at some of those flash fiction/microfiction prompts, but that may have to be a mid 2019 problem as I am going to be very busy in the next few months.
