Last week was Startup Week in San Antonio. This was the inaugural startup week. While I didn’t get to attend all of the events I had planned to, I was able to attend the TechBloc party that was organized.
TechBloc is a local special interest group, it was originally organized to help get Uber and Lyft back into San Antonio. After achieving that goal, it morphed into being a group that helps organize Tech related events in San Antonio. They have a ton of great networking events, at least once a month.
Pax South returned to San Antonio this year and it was a blast to attend. There were a ton of different booths setups this year and fortunately I had a 3 day pass to attend it.
This was the line to get in on Friday. Super impressed with their ability. The time from the door to the entrance was under 15 minutes. I have never seen a line move so quickly for a con.
After a brief walkthrough at the show. We went to lunch. On the way I ran into Ross and Holly. Ross is one of the people on the youtube channel Game Grumps. And Holly his wife is Commander Holly, a youtuber and cosplayer.

This past weekend San Antonio had its first ever terror expo. It was a pretty good con to work.
The crowds were excited to be there. It was a smaller show maybe a few thousand in attendance.
I think I will add a con report to this blog. So far I have 7 more cons coming up this year. Six of them I am working.
Should be fun.
I have started the blogging 101 course that WordPress has been offering for a number of years because I thought it might be nice to go back to basics.
I have been blogging off and on for a number of years. I started my first blog back in 2006 in my college rent house on the recommendation from a friend. I can not for the life of me remember what the service was called, but it was a site with a bunch of blogs people would setup and share memes and have personal diaries on.
After a while I decided it was time to “graduate” and had purchased my first domain and web hosting. I installed WordPress on a whim and immediately fell in love.
My original blog was much the same as it was on the journaling site. It was full of personal ramblings and memes with no real focus. After lapsing on payment with the domain, I ended up having to purchase a new domain.
Finally a site with focus. This would become Http://www.sponderpoints.com and one of the first things I would do with it would be a 365 photo project.
That blog grew and morphed and became more or less a photo blog that I would occasionally update. During this time, I began work as a ghost blogger for a tech company and the site fell to disuse.
Over the years it had sporadic updates, but again no real focus while I worked on new projects.
I have become a successful podcaster and blogger on other sites, and I felt that some of the content I had created over the years no longer fit in with the old site.
Last year while on a road trip to visit my sister, this domain was purchased (while sitting in the backseat of a car) to be a new blog for me to use. I wanted to seperate out the content so that my name would lead people to my portfolio and this site could be more personal and professional growth.
Moving forward I will be writing about online collaboration. I have launched various projects over the years.
I have been trying to write this post for over a week now, and it has just not been coming.
The year has come to a close, and 2015 was an interesting year. It started off strong, but directionless. I did not have any goals set for the first half of the year. I vaguely knew I wanted to save money, lose weight and grow Pdexposures, but no real strategy as to how I would accomplish these tasks.
2015 was full of surprises and somehow I ended up going on road trips across the country to states I had never visited before and spend time in various comic book conventions. The big road trip was to Pensacola, Florida. This was to attend Pensacon, a nice little comic book convention. Made a lot of money that weekend, and met a lot of new friends. With Pensacon, I ran the prop photography area of the show.
It went great. Lots of happy customers and a ton of great memories for people. We setup a Tardis and sold gift sized photos with a simple setup of lights in front of it.
In May I had the opportunity to run my own photo-ops at a convention down in McAllen. It was a new experience for me, to setup my own studio and control every aspect of the workflow within the studio and make sure the celebs in the photo-ops area were taken care of and that the customers were happy.
In 2015, I actually attended 5 different cons. It was a blast.
Pdexposures had some great strides in 2015, but it was largely directionless after the stellar 2014 we had. I have a plan to grow it more in 2016 which I will get into in tomorrows post. We had a bunch of great shows, but we also went on hiatus a lot because of busy schedules and a lack of time to record.
The year kind of ended on a train wreck because of an expensive car accident. Fortunately I had a great emergency fund stored up. But now that is going to be a goal for 2016, to store up my emergency fund again.
On to 2016!
Lately I have been working a lot on improving myself with weight loss and aquiring new skills.
The weight loss goal has been going great, the scale stays the same but I feel better about myself and my health. I have been eating better and working out at least three times a week.
The second phase has been the aquiring new skills phase. Recently I started a full stack developer course online and I have been really enjoying it. I always did enjoy coding, but lacked any fundemental skills. I can hack and slash, copy and paste something together but not understand why it works. Fortunately this boot camp has really been excellent for me.
The new phase I am starting is all about my finances. I want to earn $300 extra dollars a month. Minimum. The goal here is to pay down credit cards and save at least $100 a month for the next year.
This is not going to be fun at all. But a year from now I will be better off. In a lot of ways.
